Review - Nana's pantry and bar

Nana's Pantry and Bar

Nana's Pantry and Bar (soon to be licensed) opened about a week ago and already has been getting quite a buzz.

Since we here at Food Ninja love good eats, and trying new places we decided we couldn't pass up the chance to be one of the first to try this place out and give it a review.

Kap's review

(Five out of Five Stars)

I tried out Nana's Pantry on February 13th for the first time, which was only 3 days after they had opened. I have to say, that was THE BEST meal I've had in Yarmouth. The fried chicken was done to perfection, wasn't too salty or greasy, and it had been prepped properly, which is hard to come by. Oh and did I mention it was handbreaded, and NOT pre-frozen shipped from lord knows where? The fries were to die for, handcut and just awesome. Everything came out of the kitchen super hot, and fresh. We had gotten the breaded mushrooms beforehand, which were just amazing. Nice fresh mushrooms, in a lightly coated breading, and again, like the chicken and fries, not dripping in grease :) The portion sizes were huge, I couldn't finish my meal, and had to bring some of the chicken home.

I've been back several times since. I went with a rather large group (20+) last Friday. I had the breaded mushrooms, and again, they were excellent. I had the Fish n Chip special for $8.99, and I wasn't dissapointed. 2 large fillets of haddock (I believe), and they were wonderfully breaded, and the fish was nice and flaky. Fries were scrumptious as always, and the coleslaw! How could I miss the coleslaw?!? I could eat a bucket of Nana's coleslaw all on its own, sad but true, but a testament to the quality!. The appetizers and the meal were served in record time considering the amount of people and having only been open a week or so! I'm pretty sure we were all served our main courses in about an hour and 15 minutes, which I thought was amazing!! Since then I've also had the shrimp and it was awesome as well. Had the Nana's Delight for dessert which was a great, nice and light finish. Pineapple, whipped topping, and graham wafer crumbs, topped with a cherry! Wonderful end to an excellent meal.

I can't recommend the food enough, the quality freshness, and the portion sizes are amazing. The atmosphere is just delightful, chairs are large and cozy, and with the fireplace going, it makes it feel like home. Wonderful place for families or friends to meet and just enjoy their evening.

(Four out of Five Stars)

When I first stepped into the restaurant I knew we were in for a great experience. The interior is really unlike ANYTHING we have around here. The chairs are literally more comfortable than in most peoples homes, and there is a giant fireplace that makes you want to stay even after the meal is done. Couple that with the friendly staff that really make you feel at home and you've already got the makings of a great dining experience.

It doesn't stop there though!

When Food Ninja shows up a restaurant we don't do it in small groups. NO! We arrive in great ravenous hordes. We brought 20+ people with us and we recieved our appetizers and meals in record times. I often get service much later when I go in groups of one and two. It's very difficult to serve a 20 top at the same time especially when you're only open a week. KUDOS to you Nana's!

The portions were unbelievable and I actually couldn't finish my dish (and I'm a BIG eater). My dish (the clams and fries) were delicious and the appetizer of deep fried mushrooms were the best I've had. I really can't say enough about how good the food was.

So why do I rate 4/5 instead of 5/5? Only for one factor, the menu although WORLDS BETTER than every other restaurant around here, is still very similar to most menus in this area. If they offer a couple unique dishes in the future i'll definitely be adding that extra star.

If you're in the Yarmouth area and you don't try Nana's you will be missing out. Good job Nana's you and your staff should be very proud!
