One of the places we visited in halifax was Wok
Box we actually recieved a challenge to go to wok box from a friend who said
they had a very HOT and SPICY dish called DanDan.
Never ones to deny a challenge we decided we must go there and see what the real
deal was. Little did we know we were walking into a culinary trap.

Knowing we were fans of hot spicy food we received a challenge that we should go
to Wok Box on my trip to Halifax and try a dish called DanDan. Supposedly this
dish was super hot, and the challenge came from someone who enjoys hot food.
Normally I love hot food and take any chance I can get to send my mouth into a
spiraling hell of spice.
Little did we know we were in for a different kind of hell.
When you first enter Wok Box it's a flurry of action with people scurrying around and and flashes of fire coming out of real woks in plain view of the customer. The decor was nice and it was clean. The menu looked good as well so after learning the rules on how to order we did just that. You do notice immediately that there are really no asians cooking there at all.
I ordered the DanDan, and my friends ordered the Sichuan Beef with noodles, and I forget what else. Let's just say that the food was forgettable as a whole. It was not hot we all tried it and agreed that it was only somewhat spicy. Contained way too much ginger, and was otherwise bland.
My friends beef dish tasted like regular beef with no marinade or seasoning whatsoever. All the stir fry dishes that we had came with the exact same vegetables, and the choice of the vegetables was odd for the food. Definitely poured from a frozen bag.
All the dishes came with your choice of rice or noodles and you sure as hell better consider your choice because 95% of your meal is going to be just that rice or noodle. The actual meat is sparse, and the veggies as well.
Considering you are paying for 9/10 noodles and 1/10 actual ingredients and meat, you'd expect it would be fairly cheap? WRONG. You'll be paying about 15 a dish with a tiny side. Everything will be INCREDIBLY scalding so please please be careful if you bring children. I bit into a tiny springroll and was burned pretty bad by hot oil that came out of it. The rice as well was scalding.
The food was quick but arrived in an odd order. You usually get your main dish about 10-15 minutes before your appetizer does. The pepsi branded fountain pop was out of pepsi which no one changed. Which is a cardinal sin in my books.
If you've seen my other reviews on this site you'll probably notice that I'm relatively easy to please and this is actually the first poor review I've given. I can't stress enough how horrible this was and I actually felt sick afterwards and didn't even come close to finishing my meal or appetizer.
The only reason I'm giving this restaurant any stars at all (yes a zero rating does exist) is because this particular Wok Box only just opened up a few weeks ago.
The only redeeming quality of the restaurant I was told by my friend is that it
had possibly the nicest bathroom in the city. Of course I didn't go in there so
no stars for that.
